Smells Like Rockin' Robin [VIDEO]

This is sort of an awesome song.

Since 1993, a menagerie of poets from across the globe has been waking up at 3:15 AM every night during the month of August to write as an attempt to capture (and ride) that precarious state between dreaming and waking.
Steps:
1) get notebook2) get ball point pen (ink pens can leak and stain sheets and pages)3) apologize to loved ones (or invite them to join)4) set your alarm on JULY 31, 2010 for 3:15 AM*5) wake up (but not too much, we likey 1/2 sleep language)6) write7) repeat (for the entire month of August)

i’m doing this for the first time this year! well, a slight variation of it? i expressed my concern at the fact that i’m often sleepless for a couple of days at a time, and when i do sleep i’m generally nocturnal (meaning not asleep at 3:15 am), and i got told this:

There are no hard and fast rules. We’re a loose bunch. It’s really up to you and what you want to get out of the experiment. The general idea is to write in an altered state of consciousness, riding that precarious line between sleeping and… waking. Pick whatever time that would be for you. If the “middle of the night” is 10 AM, then write 10:15 poems. Perhaps you can set your alarm to go off 4 hours after you go to sleep, whenever that is? As long as it’s in the spirit of the experiment, then who cares about rules. :-)

SO YAY. i think it’ll be fun! it starts tomorrow night!

@RoxMyKnittedSoxs

Here is a solution to the no replying to replies thing: Reblogging the person’s post.

And here are some resources for college cooking. (I’m assuming you are starting this year, but even if you aren’t, here’s some food for thought- or college.)

This book looks good, and there are a few actual recipes reproduced in the “Search inside” feature. Now that I have seen it, I may actually get a copy, because it looks pretty good.

There is potential here as well. Perhaps as you find your own way to cook in a dorm you can expand the tool (I know I will!).

That’s just a start, but college eating is way more than pancakes. I got a Crock Pot toward the end of the year, and made beef stew and chili in my room. It was awesome.

I’m sorry, I’m a noob, so if there is a easier way to reply to a reply, please tell me. Anyway, I was always told that you survive off of pancakes/waffles, ramen noodles and cereal. But that’s good to know for the future!

Nachos!

Nachos!

Also, the tomatoes are coming in!

This is how I am spending my evening. We lost half a tree to last night’s storm, so my mother went out and got a chain saw. I am carrying the 7-10 foot branches along the side of the house to the front yard, to be hauled out by the city garbage collectors.

Katy Perry really wants to be Lady Gaga. I wish she wouldn’t have ruined my favorite childhood board game in the process.
